Susterra

Energy Storage

Chile is one of the leading countries in the world in the use of Non-Conventional Renewable Energies. The challenge that remains in this mission to decarbonize our electrical matrix is how to deal with the intermittency that is intrinsic to photovoltaic and wind power plants. For this reason, Susterra is developing two large energy storage projects using Pump Storage, the technology with the longest track record in storage in the world.

Energy storage

Project Mirador de Atacama

The Mirador de Atacama project is a 320 MW power project with a storage capacity of 8 hours, which is equivalent to 2,560 MWh of stored energy. It will be the first reverse hydraulic pumping project in the country and will have desalinated water supply, for greater coherence in the fight against climate change.

Energy storage

Project Altos de Peuchén

The Altos de Peuchén project contemplates the construction of a plant with a power of 450 MW and a storage capacity of 6 hours, managing to store more than 2700 MWh of energy. This project takes advantage of all the natural faults in the area and uses them to its advantage, thus obtaining a project with great technical advantages and the ability to provide stability to the network without the need to build large reservoirs or reduce the flow of existing rivers. .
